Before any detailing work can be carried, we need to ensure that the car is perfectly clean. We do this through paint decontamination at our location on the Hampshire and West Sussex border. We rid the car of any loose and imbedded contaminants. After this procedure we can assess the condition of the paint, then judge the requirements for paint correction and ceramic coating.
Paint Decontamination Services We Offer.
A full three bucket hand wash is carried out as a first step. During this wash, the door and boot shuts are cleaned and degreased. The vehicle gets a pre-clean treatment where it is sprayed with an APC (All Purpose Cleaner). This process dissolves and softens road grime, mud and salt which can then be rinsed off. A snow foam is applied to soften any remaining dirt before being rinsed off.
Once most of the dirt has been removed we move onto the contact part of the wash. Two separate microfiber wash mitts are used. One for the upper portion of the car and one for the lower. We also use some ultra soft detailing brushes to remove dirt from panel gaps and badges. We use a safe Ph neutral shampoo which is non-corrosive and biodegradable. At Black River Details we only use the highest quality products. Cheaper shampoos often contain salt as a thickener, and you don’t want these applied to your car for obvious reasons.
Now that the majority or the dirt has been removed, the first chemical decontamination stage is carried out, this involves spraying the exterior and the inside and outside of the wheel with an iron and fallout remover, this will dissolve imbedded iron contamination and allow it to be rinsed away. This step is especially important for the wheels as they get covered in brake dust which is made up of small filings from the steel brake rotors and sometimes the metallic particles in some high performance brake pads.
Once the iron and fallout remover has been washed away the next stage of chemical decontamination can be carried out. This is the tar removal stage, a tar dissolver is sprayed onto the lower half of the vehicle and the wheels and on any isolated tar spots, this is left to dwell before being wiped away with soft, clean microfibre towels. The vehcile then recieves another rinse to remove any residue.
The final decontamination stage can now be carried out, this is the clay bar stage, here a clay bar is used with an appropriate lubricant to remove any remaining imbedded contaminants, this will leave the paint and wheels feeling smooth as glass and with far better clarity and gloss since you are no longer looking at the paint through a layer of dirt.
The whole car then recieves a final snowfoam treatment to dissolve and remove any leftover product reisdue which is then rinsed off.
