After a time the headlight lens will start to go cloudy, turn a yellowish colour and feel rough. Multiple reasons can cause these imperfections. Whatever the reason, it is important to fix them to ensure the headlights are performing as they should. At Black River Details we address any issues with our headlight restoration services.
Modern day headlights have lens covers made of polycarbonate. Compared to glass, polycarbonate is a lot more resistant to shattering from road debris. However, it is sensitive to UV rays, harsh chemicals and various forms of road debris like road salt.
From the factory, there is a protective UV resistant coating. That said, this coating soon degrades, if your car spends a lot of time outside. Consider removing and replacing this coating in these circumstances..
Headlight Restoration Services We Offer.
Headlight Restoration:
We can remove this redundant coating, along will any embedded contaminants. Leaving a crystal clear, like new headlight. We do this by wet sanding the headlight in various stages, then machine polishing the headlights until we achieve a perfectly clear finish.
Ceramic Coating:
After this, we apply a protective coating to help keep the headlights in, their now, pristine condition. We use Nanolex Si3D Headlight. This coating that is specifically designed for use on headlights and has been formulated to shield the headlights from UV rays and to form a strong bond with polycarbonate surfaces. This will act just like the ceramic coatings that are used on the paint, giving the same self-cleaning benefits whilst also protecting the headlight from UV rays preventing the yellowing and degradation of the material from happening again.
